Matthew Riva is a Client Relationship Specialist at Cardinal Point Capital Management, working out of the firm’s Toronto office. With a strong focus on cross-border financial planning, Matthew supports clients with complex financial needs that span both Canada and the United States. His expertise in this area is rooted not only in his professional training, but also in his personal background—having been born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario, a unique cross-border community that gave him early insight into the financial, cultural, and regulatory nuances of life on both sides of the border.
Matthew holds an Honours Bachelor of Accounting (Co-op) degree from Brock University, where he also played for the OUA Brock men’s hockey team. Balancing academics and varsity hockey instilled in Matthew a strong work ethic, discipline, and a team-first mindset—skills that continue to shape his client-focused approach. Competing at a high level taught him to perform under pressure and stay focused on long-term goals, essential traits in wealth management.
Before joining Cardinal Point, Matthew spent three years at CSS, a public accounting and wealth management firm in the Niagara region, where he built a solid foundation in tax and financial reporting. Currently pursuing his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in both Canada and the U.S., Matthew is committed to expanding his cross-border expertise and providing clients with the highest standard of financial guidance. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, spending time at the cottage, following and playing sports, and travelling.
