Don Lato started his career in the investment industry at Wood Gundy in 1980 after completing a B.Sc. Pharmacy at the University of Toronto (1976) and an MBA at Western University (formerly University of Western Ontario) (1980).
Don spent most of his investment career as a Financial Advisor at CIBC Wood Gundy and Midland Walwyn Inc. where he was a Vice President and Director while also broadening his investment acumen as an institutional equity salesperson. Don transitioned from CIBC Wood Gundy to join Goodreid Investment Counsel in 2005 as a Portfolio Manager and Director.
Don’s proudest career achievement began in 2012 when he founded Padlock Investment Management, delivering exceptional investment management services to clients throughout Ontario.
Don has built upon his considerable wealth management experience to deliver sensible investment strategies that help grow and protect assets from financial uncertainty. His varied and deep experience within the financial industry has given him unique perspectives into markets. To this end, the synergistic acquisition of Padlock by Dorchester Wealth Management in October 2023 and the merger of Dorchester with Cardinal Point in March 2025, allows clients to benefit from increased depth and bench strength across the combined firm.
